for Elementary, Middle, and High Schools

Park Community Federal Credit Union is dedicated to Youth Financial Literacy.  For the past 2 years, Park Community has won the Kentucky DesJardins Award for Youth Financial Education from the Credit Union National Association. 

The need for financial education.
According to Jump$tart, a national coalition of organizations dedicated to improving financial literacy of kindergarten through college-age youth, financial literacy is still declining.  In their 2008 biennial survey, high school seniors answered 48.3% of the questions correctly, 4.1% lower than their 2006 survey.  The 31-question survey was given to 6,856 high school seniors across 40 states and included questions on credit, stocks, and mortgages. 

The Young Americans Center for Financial Education claims that while 40 states have personal finance guidelines, only 9 states include it in their testing practices.  They’ve also found that 56% of high school seniors carry four or more credit cards, with an average total balance of $2,864.

Park Community has been partnering with local schools for the past four years, delivering customized lesson plans to meet the needs of the students and teacher.  From lessons on savings accounts to credit, Park Community is willing to do whatever it takes to improve the financial future of our youth.  Through classroom visits, we’re improving financial literacy and strengthening our bond with the community.
